AirPods Pro 3 vs Pro 2: what changes for iPhone buyers?
AirPods Pro 3 makes the clearest case if you want a longer rated listening time per charge, the extra XXS ear tip, the higher IP rating or workout heart-rate sensing. If your Pro 2 fits well and covers your day, keeping them is sensible. Both generations use Apple's H2 headphone chip. This guide compares Apple's tech specs for AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2 with the USB-C charging case; it is not our own listening, fit or battery measurement.

From Apple's tech specs (AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C case). Apple tested each generation with different iPhones and software, so treat the battery rows as each model's maximum rating, not a head-to-head result. The trade-off is real: longer per charge on Pro 3, a higher case-inclusive total on Pro 2. Apple rates Pro 3 at up to 6.5 hours per charge with heart-rate sensing during workouts.
Check your iPhone before buying for a feature
Apple says the Pro 3 heart-rate monitor is meant for workouts with the Fitness app and compatible third-party apps on an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Check your iPhone's software and the app first. It is a workout feature, not a medical device.
The extra XXS tip gives Pro 3 one more supplied size; it cannot guarantee a seal for every ear. IP57 and IP54 are lab ratings, not waterproofing: Apple notes resistance is not permanent and says not to charge either model when wet.
Buying Pro 3, or keeping Pro 2
If your Pro 2 fit well and the battery lasts long enough for you, there is no need to replace them for the generation number alone. If the Pro 3 differences matter, our AirPods Pro 3 at $170 USD are open-box, never used; the listing's Includes line shows what ships with the unit. AirPods Pro 2 are here for comparison only; we do not sell them.
