Why is the iPhone 18 Pro so expensive?
Apple priced the iPhone 18 Pro 6.3-inch 256GB at $1,199 (US) when it announced the phone on September 9, 2026 (Apple's September 9, 2026 press release). VoltVault has that 256GB factory-unlocked US model in stock at $1,099: open-box, never used, eSIM only, free tracked shipping from Utah, USA and 30-day returns.

Apple's release does not say why the price went up. What Apple's own pages do show: the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro started at $1,099 (US) in its September 2025 iPhone 17 Pro release, so the 18 Pro starts $100 higher for the same 256GB of storage, and Apple lists the hardware changes below with it.
. Apple can change its prices; Apple's unlocked 6.3-inch 256GB page shows today's figure.
What Apple says is new in the iPhone 18 Pro
- Main camera: a 48MP Fusion Main camera, now with variable aperture
- Chip and cooling: the A20 Pro chip on a redesigned vapor chamber with three times more surface area than the iPhone 17 Pro's; Apple quotes up to a 40% gain in sustained performance over that phone
- Battery: up to 36 hours of video playback on the eSIM-only 18 Pro
- Modem: C2, Apple's next-generation cellular modem system, with mmWave support in the US
- Storage: 256GB to start, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB above it
These are Apple's descriptions from Apple's September 9, 2026 press release, not our measurements. None of them is given as the reason for the price.
Why some iPhone 18 Pro prices are higher still
Apple's $1,199 buys the smallest storage, 256GB, on the 6.3-inch phone. Each bigger storage size costs more, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is a separate 6.9-inch phone with its own price. The VoltVault listing is the 256GB 6.3-inch model only.

Common questions
Why is the iPhone 18 Pro so expensive?
Apple priced the 6.3-inch 256GB model at $1,199 (US), $100 above the iPhone 17 Pro's $1,099 start a year earlier. Apple gives no reason for the rise; it lists a variable-aperture main camera, the A20 Pro chip with a larger vapor chamber, up to 36 hours of video playback and its C2 modem. VoltVault has the 256GB factory-unlocked US model at $1,099, open-box and never used.
Did Apple say why the iPhone 18 Pro costs more?
No. Its September 9, 2026 release states the $1,199 starting price and the new hardware, but no reason for the increase, so we do not guess at one.
How much more is the iPhone 18 Pro than the iPhone 17 Pro?
At launch, $100 more in the US: Apple started the iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099 in September 2025 and the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 in September 2026, both with 256GB.
Why does Apple show higher iPhone 18 Pro prices than that?
$1,199 is the 256GB model. The 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions cost more, and the 6.9-inch Pro Max is a different, bigger phone. We sell only the 256GB 6.3-inch model, so $1,099 is for that one.
Is $1,099 the iPhone 18 Pro Max price?
No. $1,099 is for the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro with 256GB, the factory-unlocked US model, not the Pro Max and not a carrier plan.
Does it work with my carrier?
It is the factory-unlocked US model and it is eSIM only, with no SIM tray, so your carrier has to support eSIM. Ask us at orders@shopvoltvault.com before you pay if you are not sure.
Is it refurbished?
No. It is open-box, never used: the box was opened, so we do not call it factory-sealed, but nobody has used the phone.
