What Valve says about the Steam Machine
On its store page (checked October 27, 2026), Valve lists these specs for both sizes:
- CPU: semi-custom AMD Zen 4, 6 cores / 12 threads
- GPU: semi-custom AMD RDNA3, 28 compute units
- Memory: 16GB DDR5 plus 8GB GDDR6 video memory

Valve describes it as "up to 4k gaming with FSR 4.1" and says that while it is optimized for gaming, "it's still your PC. Install your own apps, or even another operating system." In its June 22, 2026 launch post Valve wrote: "We think of Steam Machine as an extension of PC gaming, not as a console."
Price and how to get one, in Valve's words
- Steam Machine 512GB: $1,049 USD
- Steam Machine 512GB with Steam Controller: $1,128 USD
- Steam Machine 2TB: $1,349 USD
- Steam Machine 2TB with Steam Controller: $1,428 USD
Those prices appear on Valve's store page and in its June 22, 2026 launch post. Valve sold the first units through a reservation queue and a waitlist set by a one-time random draw. Its July 28, 2026 update says it "began shipping Steam Machine at the end of June" and expects everyone in the reservation queue to have the option to purchase by the end of this year, with 72 hours to complete each purchase. When we checked on October 27, 2026, the store page asked buyers to join the waitlist. Valve has not posted a newer date on that page, so check it for the current status.

Sony says over 100 PS5 titles are enhanced for the Pro, and that the console plays over 8,500 PS4 games. PS5 Pro Enhanced games lists them, and Does the PS5 Pro have a disc drive? covers Sony's add-on drive.

How to decide
- Pick the PS5 Pro when your games and friends are on PlayStation, you want PlayStation exclusives and PS5 Pro Enhanced modes on a 4K TV, and you want a console that is in stock and ready to plug in.
- Pick the Steam Machine when your library is already on Steam, you want PC freedom on the TV, and joining Valve's waitlist works for you.
- Already own both kinds of games? The library you play most is the better guide than specs.
