Why is the Switch 2 so expensive?
Nintendo of America raised the US price of the Nintendo Switch 2 system on September 1, 2026, up from its $449.99 launch price, and its only stated reason is that the change is "in response to various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term" (Nintendo of America's May 7, 2026 notice). VoltVault has the Nintendo Switch 2 system in stock at $349 USD: open-box, never used, no game in the box, free tracked shipping from Utah, USA, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The reason Nintendo gave
- In Nintendo's words: the change is "in response to various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term."
- When: announced May 7, 2026, effective September 1, 2026, for the Nintendo Switch 2 system in the US.
- What it did not say: the notice names no other cause, so this page does not guess at one. Other sites tell other stories about why; this page sticks to what Nintendo wrote.
- At launch: the Switch 2 launched in the US on June 5, 2025, at $449.99 (Nintendo's April 2, 2025 launch post).
How much is a Nintendo Switch 2? covers the price itself, and console prices in 2026 puts the Switch 2 beside the PlayStation and Xbox changes. The Switch 2 price increase covers the September 1, 2026 change step by step.
What the price buys, in Nintendo's words
Nintendo's launch post lists what is new in the Switch 2 over the first Switch:
- Screen: a 7.9-inch LCD that shows full HD 1080p, at the same thickness as the Nintendo Switch.
- On a TV: through the dock, up to 4K and up to 120 fps "via compatible games and TVs".
- Storage: 256 GB built in, "8 times the storage capacity of Nintendo Switch".
- Joy-Con 2: they "snap" on with magnetic connectors, and each one can work as a mouse in compatible games.
- GameChat: voice chat through the built-in mic while you play. Nintendo says it needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership after the end of March 2026.
Whether that is worth it is a different question: is the Switch 2 worth it? answers it.
Why the bundle costs more
The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle adds the Mario Kart World game, so Nintendo prices it above the system alone; Nintendo's store shows today's figure for each. VoltVault sells the system only, at $349 USD, with no game in the box.
