What Sony says
- "The PS5 Pro console can play over 8,500 PS4® games." (PS5 Pro page)
- "There are a small number of PS4 games that are not compatible with PS5 Pro." Sony lists them on its backward-compatibility page, and PlayStation Store marks them "Playable on: PS4 only".
- The PS5 Pro version of Game Boost can give "faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 and PS5 console's greatest games."
- Sony also warns that some PS4 features may not be available on PS5 consoles, and that some PS4 games may show errors, so it suggests trying your PS4 game on the PS5 before buying add-ons for it.
Digital PS4 games vs PS4 discs
Digital games: sign in with the same PlayStation account and download them from your game library. Sony's support page also says you can move games and saves from a PS4 over WiFi, or play PS4 games straight from a compatible USB drive you already use with your PS4.
Discs: the PS5 Pro has no disc drive. Sony's own words: "PS4 game discs can't be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition", and the same applies to a PS5 Pro until you attach Sony's Disc Drive, sold separately. Does the PS5 Pro have a disc drive? covers fitting it. If your library is mostly discs and you don't want an add-on, the PS5 Disc Edition has the drive built in.
Controllers and PS VR
Sony says the DUALSHOCK 4 works on PS5 consoles with supported PS4 games, while PS5 games need a DualSense, and one comes in our box. The original PS VR works with supported PS VR games through the PlayStation Camera for PS4 and Sony's camera adaptor.
