Digital Xbox One games: check your library
The Microsoft Store Xbox Series X FAQ, read October 28, 2026, says: “The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the ‘Ready to Install’ section on your XBOX Series X console.” This is catalog-based support, not a promise that every Xbox One title works.
Xbox One discs: download, then leave the disc inserted
In that same FAQ, Microsoft says: “For disc-based games that are part of the Back Compat game catalog, insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive.” It adds: “After the game has downloaded to your hard drive, you will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play.” Owning the disc does not turn it into a disc-free digital license.
Choose the disc model, not an all-digital console
All-Digital Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have no disc drive and cannot play Xbox One discs. If you already own compatible discs, our Xbox Series X 1TB Disc in Carbon Black has the drive they need.
