Worth it if you want digital games in a small Xbox

Pick it if the games you want are available digitally on Xbox, you prefer a small console and you are comfortable managing downloads. Game Pass can be an option, but it is a separate subscription, not included with this console. Check Xbox Game Pass for the current plans and each game's requirements before you subscribe.

Microsoft describes Series S as designed for disc-free gaming at 1440p, with the ability to upscale to 4K. That suits a buyer who does not need native 4K gaming. Microsoft lists up to 120 FPS, but that is not a promise for every game: resolution, settings and frame rate vary.

Skip it if discs or native 4K matter to you

The Series S has no disc drive. Microsoft states: "Disc-based games are not compatible with the 512GB or 1TB Xbox Series S consoles." It cannot use your physical Xbox game library or play Blu-ray discs. Read does the Series S have a disc drive? for that specific question.

If you need discs, the Series X we sell is the 1TB disc model, not this one. Microsoft distinguishes the Series X's native 4K gaming from the Series S's 1440p target and 4K upscaling. See is the Series X worth it? or Series S vs Series X for the fuller comparison.

Know what 512GB means before buying

Our listing is the Series S 512GB Digital, not the 1TB Series S. System software takes some space, so the full 512GB is not available for games. Check the download sizes of the games you want; a smaller digital library is easier to manage than keeping many large games installed. We do not promise a number of games that will fit.

VoltVault has the Series S 512GB Digital in stock at $199 USD, open-box, never used. See the Series S product page for included items and the current offer. Open-box, never used is not a factory-sealed or refurbished claim.

Buying for GTA 6?

Read which console to buy for GTA 6 for the separate game-specific decision. We do not claim to have played it or promise a resolution or frame rate on Series S.
