Xbox Series X price increase dates

  • November 10, 2020: the Xbox Series X launches at $499 in the US with a 1TB SSD and a disc drive (Xbox Wire, September 9, 2020).
  • May 1, 2025: first US increase (Microsoft's May 1, 2025 US price sheet).
  • October 2025: second US increase. Microsoft's June 25, 2026 post confirms it ("Last October, we increased XBOX console price ...").
  • June 25, 2026: Microsoft announces the third increase: "Effective August 1, 2026, we will be updating prices worldwide." It also says it is "sunsetting" the 2TB model (Xbox Wire, June 25, 2026).
  • August 1, 2026: the new prices take effect.
  • October 28, 2026: the Microsoft Store Series X page shows the Series X "Out of stock." No further Xbox console price change announced on Xbox Wire.

The Series X you buy today is the same console Microsoft launched: a 1TB SSD, a disc drive and one Xbox Wireless Controller. Only the price changed. Console prices in 2026 covers the Xbox, PlayStation and Switch changes side by side.

Why Microsoft says it raised the price

In Microsoft's June 25, 2026 Xbox Wire post, Microsoft wrote that "console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x" and that "consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make." It gives no other reason, so we do not add one.

What the increase means if you are buying now

  • On October 28, 2026, the Microsoft Store showed the Series X as out of stock. That is Microsoft's own store, not every store.
  • VoltVault sells the Series X 1TB with a disc drive, open-box and never used, at $379 USD, under its $499 launch price. The Xbox Series X listing shows the live price.
