PS5 Slim vs PS5 Pro: the difference
The PS5 Slim is the current smaller PS5. Sony’s Direct page calls the 1TB console the CFI-2100 model group, slim, with 1TB of built-in storage, and says this console has a disc drive. The PS5 Pro is the more powerful 2TB console. Sony’s Direct page says it is all-digital with no disc drive, and that the disc drive and vertical stand are sold separately.
| PS5 Slim (Disc Edition) | PS5 Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | 1TB SSD | 2TB SSD |
| Disc drive | Built in | None in the box; Sony sells one separately |
| Graphics | Ray tracing, 4K TV ready, up to 120fps | Advanced ray tracing, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, up to 120fps with 4K output |
| PlayStation Direct | $649.00 | $899.00 |

Graphics lines are Sony’s own wording from the two Direct pages. Sony notes that the Pro’s enhanced features work only on games enhanced for PS5 Pro, and vary by game.
Which one should you get?
Get the PS5 Slim Disc Edition if you play disc games or watch movies on disc, if 1TB is enough for your library, or if you want the lower price. It has the disc drive built in, so there is nothing else to buy to play discs.
Get the PS5 Pro if you play on a 4K TV and want the sharpest picture and highest frame rates in games enhanced for PS5 Pro, or you want 2TB of storage. If you also play discs, plan on buying Sony’s disc drive separately.
