Why there is no Series X price drop

The last price news from Microsoft was a rise, not a cut. On Xbox Wire on June 25, 2026, Microsoft wrote: "Effective August 1, 2026, we will be updating prices worldwide." The reason it gave was that "console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x." That post announced no lower price for any Xbox console, and on October 28, 2026 we found no later Xbox Wire post announcing a US price cut. Xbox Series X price increase dates lists every US change with its date.

Why you still see "price drop" headlines

When we searched "xbox series x price drop" on October 28, 2026, the top stories were about price rises, not cuts. A limited-time sale at a store is a promotion that ends; it is not a lower Microsoft price. If Microsoft cuts the Series X price, it will say so on Xbox Wire, and we will update this page.

Waiting for a cut, or buying now

  • Waiting: Microsoft has not announced a cut, so there is no date to wait for. We do not guess at one.
  • Buying now: VoltVault's Series X 1TB with a disc drive is $379 USD, open-box and never used. That is under the $499 launch price Microsoft gave on Xbox Wire, September 9, 2020.
  • Open-box, never used means the box has been opened, so we do not sell it as factory-sealed, but nobody has used the console. It is not refurbished.
  • The Xbox Series X listing always shows our live price. How much is the Xbox Series X? covers what each Series X model costs.
