Quick pick by who it's for
| Gift for | Start here | Price | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Younger kids and shared family play | Nintendo Switch 2 | $449 | Handheld or on the TV, two Joy-Con 2 controllers in the box |
| Teens whose friends play PlayStation | PS5 Disc Edition | $569 | Plays physical PS5 discs and 4K Blu-ray |
| Teens and adults already on Xbox or Game Pass | Xbox Series X | $679 | Keeps their Xbox library; 1TB with a disc drive |
| A serious PlayStation player | PS5 Pro | $850 | 2TB and enhanced graphics; no disc drive included |
For younger kids: Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 ($449) works as a handheld in the car and docks to the TV for the family, and the two Joy-Con 2 controllers mean two players can start on Christmas morning. It plays Switch 2 games and many Switch games; if your child already owns Switch games, check each title on Nintendo's compatibility page.
For teens: PS5 Disc Edition or Xbox Series X
Teens mostly want the console their friends use, since friend lists and party chat work best on the same platform. The PS5 Disc Edition ($569) suits PlayStation friend groups and plays physical discs, so second-hand games and 4K Blu-ray movies work too. The Xbox Series X ($679) suits anyone already on Xbox, with a 1TB SSD and a disc drive. Not sure which? Our PS5 vs Switch 2 and Switch 2 vs Xbox Series X comparisons go deeper.
For the serious gamer: PS5 Pro
The PS5 Pro ($850) has a 2TB SSD and enhanced graphics for a 4K TV. The unit listed here does not include a disc drive, so pick the PS5 Disc Edition if the gift-receiver buys games on disc.
Before you wrap it
- Age ratings and parental controls: check each game's age rating (ESRB in the US, PEGI in Europe) and set up the console's built-in parental controls and spending limits.
- Online play: playing online on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo usually needs a paid membership; budget for it if they'll play with friends.
- Delivery timing: US orders arrive in about 5–10 business days after confirmed payment. International orders ship within 3–5 business days, then take about 6–10 business days in transit. Holiday carrier volume can add time.
- Returns: the 30-day money-back guarantee covers a change of mind after the gifts are opened.
Christmas console FAQ
Which console is the best Christmas gift for a younger child?
For most families with younger kids, the Nintendo Switch 2 is the easiest pick: it plays handheld or docked to the TV, comes with two Joy-Con 2 controllers for shared play, and has Nintendo's family-friendly series. It is $449 here. Check each game's age rating and set up the console's parental controls before you wrap it.
Switch 2, PS5 or Xbox Series X for a teenager?
Ask what their friends play first: friend lists, party chat and many multiplayer games work best on the same platform. If friends are on PlayStation, the PS5 Disc Edition ($569) plays physical discs and the big PlayStation series. If they already use Xbox or Game Pass, the Xbox Series X ($679) keeps their digital Xbox library. If they want to play on the bus as well as the TV, choose the Switch 2.
Will it arrive before Christmas?
We dispatch within 3–5 business days of confirmed payment. US delivery then takes about 2–5 business days in transit (about 5–10 business days in total), and international transit about 6–10 business days after dispatch. Holiday carrier volume can add time, so order with a margin.
What condition are the consoles in?
Every console in this guide is listed as open-box, never used, and ships with the items shown on its product page. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers a change of mind after Christmas morning.
