No, if you mainly want the best camera and the longest battery life in a regular phone. Who the iPhone Duo is for

  • You take photos of other people. Duo Preview shows the people you photograph a live preview on the outer display, and Duo FaceTime lets nearby friends join a call on it.
  • You want hands-free calls and viewing. The Duo can stand on its own for FaceTime calls, workouts and shows.
  • You want Apple Pencil on a phone. The Duo works with Apple Pencil (USB-C), sold separately. Apple notes that hover is not supported.

Who should skip it

  • You want the longest zoom. The Duo has two rear cameras, a 48MP Fusion Main and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, with up to 2x optical-quality zoom and digital zoom up to 10x. The iPhone 18 Pro Max adds a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera with up to 8x optical-quality zoom and digital zoom up to 40x.
  • You want the longest battery life. Apple rates the Duo at up to 24 hours of typical use and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at up to 30 hours.
  • You want a thin phone in your pocket. Closed, the Duo is 11.3 mm thick and weighs 254 grams. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is 8.75 mm thick and weighs 249 grams.
  • You rely on Face ID. The Duo uses Touch ID in the side button instead.

US model, eSIM only: will it work in my country?

  1. Your carrier offers eSIM on iPhone. Apple keeps a list of carriers and providers that offer eSIM service on iPhone. If your plan only comes on a physical SIM card, the Duo can't use it.
  2. Your carrier supports the iPhone Duo's 5G and LTE bands. Apple lists them on its supported 5G and LTE networks page and says to contact your carrier for details.
  3. Your carrier will activate this US model on your plan. Ask before you buy, especially outside the US. A carrier offering eSIM does not, by itself, mean it supports this model in every country.

Apple notes that a standard setup uses about 12GB to 24GB for iOS 27 and Apple's apps, and that Apple Intelligence's on-device models use about 7GB, so the space you can use is less than the number on the box.
